As a photographer, I have the wonderful privilege of meeting absolutely amazing families every day and being a part of their most important memories.
I think my favorite part of the experience is watching a new mom cry as she sees her baby’s portraits for the first time. Those happy tears show that every sleepless night and dirty diaper is worth it, all to be able to finally hold your baby in your arms.
And I love that.
let's get to know each other
I know first-hand how wonderfully precious these fleeting moments are, and especially how fast the time flies by. It seems like just yesterday we were holding our son in our arms for the very first time, and now he is in 5th grade. When it comes down to it, photography is all about enjoying the love of family and somehow cherishing those moments for a little while longer.

My husband, Micah, known to our friends as Mr. Camera Happy, was actually the one who introduced me to my first (real) camera at sixteen years old. Now, almost two decades later, we have a cozy home in the picture-perfect town of Palmer, Alaska, three kids, a dog & cat, our dream careers, and apple trees in the front yard.
Our children are our joys and we are constantly inspired by each new milestone and discovery. Caleb, the oldest, is a preteen who loves LEGOS & corny jokes (as do I!). Samantha, adores her big brother and loves being a big sister herself. She'll go rock climbing while wearing a princess tiara and is so cool! And little Clara, is my sunshine. I love her pigtails, her dimples, and her imagination. And she gives the very best hugs.

At sixteen, I met my future husband, Micah, and he was obsessed with cameras. We become the best of friends and I started getting interested in photography since he liked it so much. By the time we were married a few years later, I had fallen in love with the creative side of photography and documenting all the important moments of life.
We bought our first Canon professional-grade camera during my first year at UAA and I also took a film photography course, which taught all the fundamentals of the craft. That time in the darkroom led to both an appreciation for Photoshop as well as an understanding of the mechanics of photography, something I rely on to this day.
When we found out that we were expecting our first child, I naturally became obsessed with all things motherhood & baby. When Caleb was born in 2010, we setup a DIY studio in our dining room and I took my first newborn pictures. And with that, I was hooked. I knew that I loved photography and wanted to make it my career.
With that decision, we created M&M Photography and spent the next few years photographing everything from weddings to seniors, but my heart was always with the babies. Eventually, Micah left the portrait side of photography (he's all about wildlife and landscape) and I rebranded into Megan Marlene Photography and shifted focus to motherhood, babies, and families.
In 2012 I opened my very own studio and went full-time as a photographer. With every passing year, I photographed more babies, trained & mentored with some of the best photographers in the industry, and was grateful each and every day.
I'm now on my second studio (which is filled with such beautiful light!), my 4th camera, and my billionth 50mm lens. I've photographed 750+ families, 300+ babies, and have met so many incredible people. It is such an honor to document these memories and be entrusted with their most important moments. I absolutely love what I do and am so very thankful for this art form and for all my clients & families.

Let's be friends!
There are so many types of newborn & family photography. Super-posed, colorful, dramatic, documentary, classic, modern, and then there's me, light & airy with natural, baby-led posing.
Each family's tastes and styles are different, and I'm glad that there are many, many talented artists so that each family can find the photographer that matches their vision for their most precious and meaningful memories.
As a photographer, I follow other creatives whose work I admire and whose content inspires me to be a better artist. You see, creative people value creativity. We’re inspired by the creativity in others. We see that beauty and it motivates us to create something beautiful for ourselves. With our own spin and voice and vision. Creatives need other creatives. It’s about community over competition. About being inspired and inspiring others.
