This is one of my favorite poses to do during newborn sessions because it’s so simple and yet offers so much variety in the final gallery. And little Kylie was beyond perfect and slept so beautifully for her session, making poses like this even easier to do. (it’s easy to see why her gallery was almost twice as big as usual!)

We start with baby on her belly, hand tucked under her face, wearing a bonnet, with the wrap tucked around her.

First, we do an overhead shot, then come in closer (this one vertical), a super close one focusing on more of her face, and then a full-face image shot straight on.

For the next set, we take off the bonnet and loosen the wrap so more of the body is exposed, adjusting the hand for a cozy, tucked-in feel.

Again, shoot wide for the first image, next, a vertical one with negative space, and then two shots from above, both tilted downward so we can see all of baby’s adorable face (and smile!) as well as her full body with the cozy wrap.

In addition to these eight, I’ll also do profile shots, backlit, macro shots of the fingers, facial features, curl of her hair, etc. There’s so much goodness to be had in this simple setup, it’s easy to see why it’s a favorite. Especially when you have such a gorgeous baby as your subject.
