There’s always something special about the first and last babies of the year. Little Wyatt was the first newborn of 2022 and from the size of his gallery, I was quite excited to photograph him! This little guy was just so cool. He was so alert and aware and loved to just stare at me and he especially loved being held by mommy and daddy. We could have filled the entire gallery with just family pictures (and I nearly did!) but we really wanted some sleepy pictures, too, but boy, he was stubborn.

Wyatt didn’t want to miss a moment so every time he’d flutter those eyes closed, they would pop back open a few seconds later. But that’s why we don’t rush these newborn sessions. I have extra time built-in for cuddling so I rocked Wyatt in front of the heater, shushing quietly, and rubbing his little head (which he especially loved). Finally, he gave up the fight and relaxed for all of ten minutes but we got so many great pictures in that short time.

Newborn sessions are all about patience and being relaxed and going at baby’s pace. Not every newborn is going to be super sleepy and some require an hour of cuddling to get ten minutes of pictures. But all we need is those ten minutes to give you a gallery full of picture-perfect memories.
