That golden sun suited her to perfection. Their laughter filled the mountaintops.

When Taihya first got in touch to plan their Baby Plan Membership, she knew that she wanted it to take place at Flattop Mountain in South Anchorage and wanted an Anchorage Maternity Photographer who could make her vision a reality. They would be traveling to Anchorage from their hometown of Barrow (Utqiagvik) and the mountains offered such a beautiful contrast to their own North Slope. The fall colors were a vivid mix of browns, goldens, and deep evergreen. We decided to do as late in the evening as possible to take full advantage of the golden sunset, and it did not disappoint! Usually, when planning a session for an out-of-town family, we have to move forward with whatever weather we’re given due to the short window of travel time, but sometimes we luck out and the weather is everything we hoped it would be… and more.

The golden sunset reached its rays across the blue sky, softening the colors with each passing minute. The subtle clouds filled with light, bursting with radiance, and casting a glow over the entire meadow.

Taihya started the session in a fitted black gown with a wide off-the-shoulder ruffled neckline, the very picture of elegance and sophistication. Daniel wore his traditional kuspuk, honoring their culture and homeland in a truly meaningful way. For the final part of the session, Taihya switched to a fitted white body-con gown, which showed off her baby bump gorgeously.

These are the kinds of sessions that nestle in my heart and in my imagination. We crafted the session of their dreams in the place they love, knowing that we’ll be coming back here in a few years with their little boy in tow and bring everything full circle. They’ll come back years from now to go berry picking and point to the spot where mommy stood when he was still in her womb, full of joy and anticipation. These aren’t just pictures… this is creating a legacy for future generations.
